The Illiad and Odyssey are epics.

And Shakespeare's works are plays.

Are you looking for poetry?

Beowulf is an "epic poem".

And naw, we're reading it in English this year. We will also be reading Hamlet, so there's my Shakespeare for the year. Honestly, I don't find Shakespeare to be that bad. :U

if I have the windows down an inch of two in my truck and have the rear window open, then air will actually be drawn into the cab through the rear window at a pretty good rate. Along with any leaf debris in the bed.

So I learned that if a garbage truck's load catches fire (which happens more easily than you think), standard procedure is to dump the so called hot load as soon as possible, wherever possible. Even the side of a busy highway. In the words of my instructor, the sight is "like a puppy taking a shit."

And amazingly, it's actually much better for the environment to dump several tons of flaming garbage on the side of the highway than letting the truck go up in flames due to all the hydraulic oils and diesel in the truck. Clean up also happens surprisingly quickly and leaves little smell, though road resurfacing might be required.

Also I think I now know the record weight for a laden garbage truck. 106,000 pounds at the absolute least and the record seems to belong to a retired garbage trucker from Fairfax County, VA. This guy was known for being very hard on equipment, and also cramming garbage into his truck. He was a big fellow and he was either pedal to the floor or not on the pedal. His truck always needed brakes when it came in for an oil change and the hydraulics frequently gave out. This guy also loved packing trash and would pull the fuse for some of the controlling safety equipment for the packing mechanism. This way he could trigger the packing of the trash at much higher engine speeds than normal and get it compacted more so he could pick up extra dumpsters, something that management loved him for. And probably the reason he kept his job given how hard he was on the truck

For comparison, your average semi is strictly limited to a total weight of 80,000 pounds. Even being one pound over triggers nasty fines and properly transporting an overweight load involves lots of paperwork and inspection of infrastructure. Being a driver for the county somehow protected this guy from any DOT fines and what not. Be mindful that this guy was driving a 106,000+ pound truck with just 3 sets of brakes as compared to a semi's 5 or 6 axles.

My truck has $0.00 worth of value according to my county. I find this mildly insulting.

If you wanted a used luxury car for whatever reason, buy it from CarMax with the bumper to bumper 6 year, 60,000 mile warranty that covers just about everything but brakes, oil changes, and lightbulbs for just $3,000 and some change due at signing.

That way when the car breaks down (it will, I promise you that it will and more than likely several times a year), CarMax pays for your four-digit repair bill. Pick the right car and the warranty will pay for itself within a year, or two at the most. After that CarMax will start to lose money on your car.

We're getting a skylight.

I thought we were just getting the roof reshingled.

I've had one picture fall off my wall so far so I'm just gonna take my light up Broadway one down now before I leave for school.

I learned that a diesel engine without a load makes no turbo boost unless you rev the snot out of it, even then you only get a measly pound and hardly any smoke at all. Boost pressures at a steady cruising speed are usually going to be around 15 psi or higher.

This was yesterday but I didn't get home until midnight so shut up

Oh something else important that I learned yesterday. If an engine is running lean, that is to say running without enough fuel for the air being drawn into the cylinder, it can actually destroy the engine by melting the pistons.

The reason being that the extra oxygen acts like a blow torch. Oxygen is used in a blow torch to really intensify the flame and is what gives it the ability to cut through steel like butter.
